Submission Guidelines: Come to Our Place

Mission

Spaces aims to publish a piece of art daily or weekly. Think of us like a Coffee Shop and an Internet Open Mic where we can share what we are doing.  We welcome published (but let’s be courteous and give credit as appropriate) and unpublished short pieces of poetry (maximum 24 lines,) short fiction and non-fiction prose (around 250 words), art, photos, illustrations or anything else your creative juices can come up with providing it fits in the space of a blog page. Please submit no more  than one piece per month. If your work is accepted, wait another three months before submitting again.
There are no limitations on content or style or genre or topic, BUT I will not publish pornography or hate material or advocacy for violence.  I advocate for gentility, courtesy and common decency. Also, no crazy fonts or spacing.  

This blog is limited in scope to artists who reside in the southwestern part of the United States (California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. We will also consider pieces about this region. 

Simultaneous Submissions…

are fine as long as you notify me at once that they were accepted elsewhere.

Rights…

If your piece is published in Public Spaces and Private Places you grant us First Electronic publication; retention of published work in the archives of Places on a non-exclusive basis; and permission for Places to select certain works published in the Space for inclusion in an annual “Best Of”, or similar electronic, print or highlight issues. All other Rights reverts to the author 30 days after publication.

How much do we pay?

Well, no money, but the great feeling of seeing your work published and the sense of community with other artists. It’s the best we can do…

How to submit

Send up to three pieces in an email to desertspaces15 (@) gmail (dot) com. Send jpgs for photos or artwork, but please size them for appropriate web viewing. If you send me the largest file possible I will ignore your email. Send only JPGs: do not send original artwork unless you are donating to my collection (which I haven’t started, but you are welcome to be my first contributor). Accepted files are .docx, .rtf, .pdf and .jpg files.
